Students believe that teachers always know all the answers, so teachers feel like knowing everything is crucial Admitting that they don't know an answer, or were wrong is not an option. However, teachers are just as human as students. They are allowed to be wrong, to fail, and to not know. That is one way students can relate to teachers. In a learning environment, everyone must learn.
Interesting that you focus on this not knowing issue: what is it that the English teacher won't know? I imagine a lot, more than most---especially when it comes to writing... What does it mean not to "know" re: writing.... We'll have to think more about that.
ReplyDeleteWell I'd imagine an english teacher wouldn't know much about other subjects, for starters. But students normally wouldn't approach a teacher with a question not based on their subject. So I'd imagine it'd be something along the lines of what a word meant that the teacher has never heard of, or a book the teacher has never read.
